Barbara Hayes Buell Named MassDLA Defense Attorney of the Year

Barbara Hayes Buell, a partner at Smith Duggan Cornell & Gollub, has been named the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association Defense Attorney of the Year by her fellow attorneys at the association. The peer recognition honors her long commitment to civil defense law, including leading the MDLA as a past president, and her years as treasurer of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

As an experienced attorney who’s handled over 200 jury trials, Buell’s practice spans a wide range of matters with a particular focus on healthcare. She enhanced her knowledge of hospitals and the medical profession during a decade as a volunteer EMT. Following law school, she earned a Master’s degree in Public Health at Boston University.

At Smith Duggan, Buell started a speaker series featuring experts in hospital risk management, decision analysis, and mentoring—a longstanding commitment she continues by supporting colleagues at every stage of their careers.

The award will be presented at the MassDLA Annual Meeting in , an event which brings together civil defense attorneys from across Massachusetts to celebrate the year's achievements and outstanding members.
