Andrew Black concentrates his practice in defending companies and professionals in business disputes, products liability litigation, and employment matters. He regularly represents large manufacturers of industrial equipment and consumer products in fire and personal injury litigation. Andrew defends hospitals, doctors, nurses, EMTs, and dentists in many types of health care matters, including in medical malpractice actions and before the boards of registration. He is also experienced at drafting, negotiating, and interpreting contracts.

Prior to practicing law, Andrew was a consultant and project manager for a software company in the telecommunications industry. He has two engineering degrees from Northwestern University in Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.

Accomplishments

  • At trial, secured a defense verdict for a ventilation fan manufacturer where plaintiffs were seeking over $4 million for damages related to a fire in southern New Hampshire.
  • Obtained summary judgment on all claims, including products liability and negligence claims, on behalf of a manufacturer of high-intensity discharge (“HID”) lamps, against a subrogated insurance company seeking damages related to an alleged rupture of a metal halide lamp in Wisconsin.
  • Represented a Massachusetts employer in litigation and settlement negotiations against a former employee who claimed a violation of the Massachusetts prevailing wage laws.
  • Successfully argued against the plaintiff’s motion to add a manufacturer of waterproofing material, based upon prejudice and futility grounds, where a certified technician sprayed the manufacturer’s product near an open flame, which was contrary to the manufacturer’s warnings and the technician’s training and knowledge.
